School Girls Futsal League generates a buzz!

11:14 AM, Wednesday, 23 November 11. By Julio Da Mata Futsal 5 a-side

22 Teams have entered the Secondary School Girls Futsal League (South) for the forthcoming season, that is a 7 team increase on the same competition in 2010-2011 which shows that the game is appealing to players and schools across the County and is being used to engage more players in football.

During Week 1 (U12's) there were 6 schools involved and they were Bishops 1 and 2, Hereford Academy, Whitecross, Aylestone and St Mary's.

The afternoon was started off with Bishops against Hereford Academy. Both teams were playing a fair and enthusiastic game. Hereford academy were under pressure from the first whistle but they did well to only lose by 2. Bishops played a very good game passing and moving and had many chances to put the ball in the back of the net. Final Result - Bishops 2 Hereford academy 0.

The next 6 games were as follows;
Aylestone 0 v Whitecross 6

Bishops (2) 0 v St Marys 1

Whitecross 0 v St Marys 2

Hereford Academy 1 v Bishops (2)  0

Aylestone 1 v St Marys 5

Bishops (2) 0 v Bishops (1) 1

The last game of the afternoon was Bishops 1 taking on Whitecross. Going into this game Bishops 1 hadn’t lost a game and Whitecross had lost 1 game out of 3. This was going to be a very interesting game.

From the first whistle Bishops went on the attack and they scored from it. Bishops then scored again to make it 2-0. With 2 minutes to go Paige Williams from Whitecross was making the game interesting by taking on 3 of the Bishops girls and getting passed them. Bishops were proving to be difficult to get passed but then out of no where in the last minute Whitecross scored to make it 2-1.

A fantastic end to a good days futsal and some great performances by all the teams involved.
