Referee Training Courses
BASIC REFEREES COURSES
The Herefordshire FA are running a schedule of referees courses for season 2011/2012. Courses are timetabled to run over mid week evenings and weekends. The courses listed covers 11v11 football, Mini Soccer and Futsal.
Referees Training Course – 11-a-side Football
The course is a minimum of 16 hours duration with a written or either a Practical Assessment or Theory DVD examination at the end of the course. Candidates will also prior to the course receive a Pre-Course Study Pack. The course can be delivered over a number of weeks or over a weekend. You must also attend a Safeguarding Children in Football workshop and if over 18 years undergo a FA CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check.
There are five modules for the Basic Referees Training Course. (1) Pre-Course Study, (2) Knowledge of the Laws, (3) Application of the Laws, (4) Refereeing 6 x 11-a-side matches and (5) In-service training and all candidates are required to attend all the dates on the course programme. On completion of the course and successfully passing the examination you must then as part of Module Four, referee 6 x 11-a-side matches within a reasonable time period. You will then qualify as an official F.A. Referee. Successful candidates will then receive a F.A. Certificate and F.A. Referees Badge.
Candidates in Herefordshire who are under the age of 16 should sign up to the Mini Soccer Referees Skills course if they are interested in refereeing. After they have gained some experience they will be given priority on places on the 11 a side course when vacancies become available. However, if a candidate who is under 16 is absolutely comfortable that they wish to enroll on the 11-a-side course, then their application is welcome.
• Cost of the Referees Course – 11-a-side Football

Mini Soccer Referees Skills Course
• This course does not provide a refereeing qualification but outlines the Laws of the Game for Mini Soccer (usually under 8’s to under 11’s age groups and pending league rules the under 12’s age group) and the understanding of the needs for children in football.
• It will cover the role of the Referee and hopefully lead towards enrolling on the 11-a-side course. Course is 3 hours duration with no examination and candidates will receive a certificate of attendance. They will receive a Laws of the Game DVD. Those who wish to enrol on this course may wish to take the 11-a-side Course at a later date.
• It is recommended that 14 and 15 year olds take this course prior to applying to come on an 11-a-side referee course in order to get some experience and thus be prepared for 11-a-side refereeing. This course is also suitable for anyone wanting to referee Mini Soccer and is linked with a Junior League team in Herefordshire or wishes to gain some refereeing experience within their school or small tournaments. This Course is also ideal for those who are taking educational qualifications i.e. GCSE’s or enrolled in the Football Futures Leadership Programme
• Cost of Mini Soccer Referees Skills Course

The course is 10 hours duration and delivered over a number of weeks with an examination at the end. On completion candidates will receive a certificate and FA Futsal Referees Badge. This qualification is specific to Futsal only and does not enable you to referee 11-a-side football although it would provide a sound basis to progress to 11-a-side. You must attend a Safeguarding Children in Football workshop and undergo a FA CRB (over 18 years of age)
